a
theme-specific installation for Sculpture Now
“Sculpture In & By the River”, at the Norman Rockwell
Museum, Stockbridge, Ma. a
part of the Housatonic River Summer 2004 festival, exploring issues
concerning the history, current conditions and possible futures of the
Housatonic River.
as
sculptor, my interest is carved voids, conditions of figural spaces
articulated against background mass;
as
architect, my interest is movement through space, movement that alters a
person’s perceptions of the surrounding environment.
fish/ladder
combines
and enlarges these two lines of exploration, as
a pathway of basins. The
sculpted basins draw attention deep into the sculpture, while the
indicated pathway or ladder, climbing and extending, focuses the observer
on spaces before and beyond the immediate sculpture.
fish/ladder
and other recent public sculptures provide public educational content
related to but not dependant upon the objects aesthetic and formal values.
